Exploring Animal-Free Toxicity Assessment: Perspectives. Rita Ortega at the EPAA Workshop

From March 20 to 22, our PhD student Rita Ortega attended the EPAA Designation Workshop in Ispra, Italy. She participated in three EPAA NAMs designathon proposals to assess toxicity without using animals and contributed to discussions on new strategies for risk assessment.

Participation of Rita Ortega and David Talavera in the ONTOX Hackathon

From April 21 to 23, our PhD student, Rita Ortega, and our junior researcher, David Talavera, participated in the ONTOX Hackathon, held in Utrecht, Netherlands. They joined working groups, collaborated with experts, and developed solutions for various problems.

Annual Meeting of ONTOX and ONTOX-VHP4Safety

From April 24 to 25, Rita, David, and our Scientific Director, Eva Serrano, attended the ONTOX project meeting, where they also met with several project members. Additionally, on April 26, our three colleagues participated in ONTOX-VHP4Safety, an event aimed at assessing the safety of chemicals and pharmaceuticals without the use of animals in the laboratory.

Rafael Gozalbes at the Virtual MSCA-DN Session Organized by UPV

Our CEO, Rafael Gozalbes, participated on May 16 in the MSCA-DN information session organized by the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV). The session focused on the Doctoral Networks (DN) of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions and the exploration of collaboration opportunities within the Horizon Europe framework.

On May 22, our senior researcher and communication manager, Laureano Carpio, along with Daniela Hernández, business development assistant, attended the “III Foro Colabora, biotecnología y bioeconomía“. This event aimed to share innovations, work lines, and challenges in the field of bioeconomy and biotechnology, connecting technology centers in the Valencian Community with companies and entities from these and other sectors to foster collaboration in R&D.

From May 28 to 30, our junior researcher, David Talavera, participated in the International Virus Bioinformatics Meeting (ViBioM) in Leuven, Belgium. The aim of the meeting was to create an environment for discussions and new connections between experts and new participants.

Advances in Metabolomics: Martina Palomino’s Participation in SESmet

From June 3 to 6, our Senior Researcher and Training Manager, Martina Palomino, attended the II SESmet (Spanish Society of Metabolomics) Conference, which explored advancements in metabolite identification, multi-omics data integration, databases, metabolomic networks, and standardization. Additionally, she presented a paper titled “RBCS metabolomics for the study of COVID outcome”.

ESTIV 2024: Application of Alternative Methods in Drug Discovery

From June 3 to 6, our Business Development Director, Simón Perera, our Senior Researcher, José Luis Vallés, and our Business Development Assistant, Daniela Hernández, participated in the European Society of In Vitro Toxicology (ESTIV) event in Prague, Czech Republic. The event focused on the application of alternative methods in drug discovery and the safety assessment of medicines and chemicals.

Additionally, Simón Perera presented a poster titled “ProtoPRED: a fast tool to predict physicochemical, (eco)toxicological, and pharmacokinetic properties of chemicals with QSAR models,” while José Luis Vallés presented a poster titled “Implementation of Workflow for an Integrated Testing Strategy for Genotoxicity Using QSAR-Based Tools.” We also had a stand where attendees could learn more about our company.

AMPLAST: Biocontrol in Agriculture and Innovations in Health

On June 12 and 13, AMPLAST took place, where our CEO, Rafael Gozalbes, and our junior researcher, David Talavera, participated. David presented the Sulfatox project. The event addressed the use of biocontrol in agriculture to reduce chemical pesticides and explored innovations in health to combat multidrug-resistant microbes, with sessions dedicated to regulations and new research.

ENKORE in Brussels and HYPIEND in Warsaw

On June 13 and 14, the launch meeting for the ENKORE cluster was held in Brussels, with participation from our CSO, Eva Serrano, and our Senior Researcher and Communication Manager, Laureano E. Carpio. Additionally, our team participated in the general assembly of the HYPIEND Project in Warsaw on June 17 and 18.

Materials Week: Participation of Salvador Moncho and José Luis Vallés in Cyprus

From June 17 to 21, our Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Salvador Moncho, and our Senior Researcher, José Luis Vallés, attended Materials Week in Cyprus. The event aimed to drive advancements in material innovation across various value chains and industrial markets.

During the event, Salvador Moncho presented a poster titled “ProtoNANO: assessing the toxicity of inorganic nanomaterials using nano-QSAR models”. Meanwhile, José Luis Vallés gave a talk titled “Database generation workflow for supporting SSbD risk assessments”.
