The European ONTOX project held its final Annual Meeting on 30 September and 1 October 2026 in Brussels, following five years of research into new methodologies for animal-free chemical safety assessment. The meeting brought together the consortium’s 19 partners, including our company, ProtoQSAR, to present the main scientific results and achievements.
ProtoQSAR’s contribution to ONTOX
ProtoQSAR, a company specialising in computational toxicology and in silico methods, contributed to the project by developing tools such as DockTox and ECCS-DT, and by applying models from its ProtoPRED® platform to predict physicochemical properties and absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) properties.
This work has resulted in 11 scientific publications within ONTOX and 4 within the European ASPIS Cluster, reflecting our commitment to developing alternatives to animal testing.
Five years of innovation in chemical safety
ONTOX has combined computational modelling, artificial intelligence, and in vitro methods, supported by ontologies, to develop new approach methodologies (NAMs) addressing six adverse outcomes affecting the liver, kidneys and developing brain, moving towards next-generation risk assessment that is more relevant to human health.
Although the project will officially end on 31 October 2026, its impact will continue. Our tools are already part of the ONTOX Hub, the platform that brings together the project’s results (tools, marketplace services and, as they become available, data) and is being developed to maintain access to the knowledge and resources generated by the consortium.
