Welcome to a new edition of Meet the Team!
This time, we are excited to introduce another member of our team at ProtoQSAR, Rafael García Meseguer, or Rafa. His academic and research background, along with his professional experience, significantly contribute to the development of our projects.
Rafa boasts a solid academic foundation, including a PhD in Theoretical Chemistry and Computational Modelling, as well as a European Master’s degree in the same field, both obtained from the University of Valencia, where he also completed his degree in Chemistry. In terms of research experience, he has worked at the Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol) on projects focused on the biodegradation of plastics for industrial applications, developing computational models and collaborating with experimental teams. Additionally, during his time at the University of Bristol, he integrated advanced mathematical theories into chemistry, further expanding his interdisciplinary approach to scientific research.
Currently, as part of our team, he holds the position of Senior Researcher, leading the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) area. His primary role involves managing and supervising projects focused on materials chemistry and sustainability. He is also responsible for coordinating various project aspects, organizing regular meetings to align efforts and ensure an efficient workflow within the team.
When asked what he enjoys most about his work, he shared: “What I enjoy the most is developing scripts that optimize processes and make work easier for both myself and my colleagues. I’m motivated by creating tools that simplify complex tasks and enhance team efficiency. I also highly value collaboration, as I believe teamwork is essential to achieving great results”.
Outside of work, Rafa dedicates his free time to activities such as role-playing games, board games, and video games. He also enjoys sports like swimming and outdoor activities like hiking.
As for his personal recommendations, in music, he suggests “The Bard’s Song” by Blind Guardian, a song he finds inspiring and meaningful. In literature, he highlights Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, a novel that captivated him with its blend of strategy, science fiction, and thoughtful reflection. In film, he recommends Paprika, an animated movie that amazed him with its originality and ability to explore the world of dreams.
We hope you’ve enjoyed this new edition of Meet the Team. Stay tuned for more stories to get to know the people who make up ProtoQSAR.
