Welcome to a new edition of  “Meet the Team”!

Today we invite you to meet Marta Fons, a Junior Researcher at ProtoQSAR.

Marta FonsMarta holds a degree in Biotechnology from the Catholic University of Valencia (UCV) and a master’s degree in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics from the Open University of Catalonia (UOC). Throughout her career, she has completed internships at research centers such as IVIA and IBMCP, where she focused on improving rice genetics and the genetic analysis of Arabidopsis thaliana. She has also worked as a chromatography quality analyst at AINIA, expanding her knowledge of regulation and quality control in the food sector.

Her Research Career

Marta began her research career at Laboratorios Tecnológicos de Levante, working as a chromatography quality analyst. For her undergraduate thesis, she focused on the genetic analysis of Arabidopsis thaliana. Later, during her master’s degree in Bioinformatics, she specialized in implementing information systems for detecting genomic variants.

Her Work at ProtoQSAR

At ProtoQSAR, Marta is part of the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) area, where she applies computational models to assess the impact of substances on human health and the environment. She also participates in other SSbD-related projects, contributing to the development of innovative solutions in chemical and biotechnological research.

Marta loves the continuous learning that comes with her work, as well as having a direct impact on human health and the environment, which motivates her to keep developing increasingly relevant projects.

Her Hobbies and Recommendations

In her free time, Marta enjoys sports, especially hiking, running, and has recently started climbing and cycling. She also likes reading and trying new restaurants, especially burger spots.
