SETAC Europe 2025: Innovation for a sustainable future

From May 11th to 15th, ProtoQSAR took part in the 35th Annual Meeting of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) Europe, held in Vienna.

Our team was represented by Simón Perera del Rosario (Business Development Manager), Vicente Aranda López (Junior Researcher), and Eduardo Cubells Molina (Commercial & International Technician, supported by an IVACE+i Innovation grant).

During the event, the European project SITOLUB was presented, focused on Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) strategies for next-generation lubricants. ProtoQSAR contributed its predictive toxicology models to estimate hazard and environmental fate properties from the early stages of development.

The ASPA-NGRA Expert Workshop in Berlin

On May 27th and 28th, the ASPA-NGRA Expert Workshop took place in Berlin, focusing on the development and application of the ASPA (Adverse Outcome Pathway Screening and Prioritisation Approach) workflow within Next Generation Risk Assessment (NGRA) contexts.

Our CEO, Rafael Gozalbes, attended on behalf of ProtoQSAR, contributing his expertise as a member of the ASPIS consortium and the ONTOX project.

The General Assembly of the European SUBBIMATT Project

On May 27th and 28th, the annual meeting of the European project SUBBIMATT was held in the Basque Country, organized by Tekniker and the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), both project partners.

ProtoQSAR was represented by José Luis Vallés Pardo (Senior Researcher) and Marta Fons Page (Junior Researcher). During the meeting, the project’s progress was shared, technical issues were addressed, and the next steps were planned to ensure continued development.

Startup Day 2025: Catalyzing agri-food innovation

On May 28th, ProtoQSAR took part in Startup Day 2025, an event organized by AgrotecUV and BIOVEGEN, the Technological Platform for Plant Biotechnology, aimed at connecting startups, researchers, leading companies, and investors in the agri-food sector.

Our team was represented by Eduardo Cubells Molina (Commercial & Internationalization Technician) and Idoia Álvarez Ajuria (PhD student from our affiliated company, MolDrug). It was a valuable opportunity to explore sustainable biotechnological solutions applied to the agri-food field and to strengthen synergies in innovation.

Startup Day 2025

ProtoQSAR Italia at the 21st International Workshop on QSAR 2025

From 3 to 6 June, our team from ProtoQSAR Italia took part in the 21st International Workshop on Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationships in Environmental and Health Sciences (QSAR2025), held at the MARIO NEGRI INSTITUTE FOUNDATION in Milan.

The event brought together researchers from academia, industry, and regulatory bodies to share experiences and discuss the future of QSAR model development and application for health and environmental safety.

Representing ProtoQSAR Italia were Alberto Manganaro (Head of ProtoQSAR Italia), Cristina Montaner de Fez (Business Development Assistant), and Davide Pirolo (Software Developer), who also presented a poster titled “The ED-SCREEN tool for the screening of endocrine disruptor chemicals”.

21st International Workshop on QSAR 2025

13th Venice training school on safe and sustainable design

From 9 to 13 June, ProtoQSAR participated in the 13th edition of the Venice Training School, held at the Auditorium Santa Margherita in Venice. The event focused on strengthening knowledge and practice in the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) approach applied to advanced materials.

The training was co-organised by 15 EU-funded projects, including SITOLUB and CheMatSustain, in which ProtoQSAR is actively involved.

Our junior researcher Marta Fons Page presented her work as part of the DeCoRiS project, funded by the IVACE+i Innovation Talent Promotion programme (INNTA2/2024/2), where she explained how cheminformatics and predictive models can support more sustainable innovation.

Enrique Llobet Serra, PhD student, also shared progress on his research within the MoToMaMi project, funded by the IVACE+i Innovation Innodocto programme (INNTA3/2024/2), focused on material design through predictive modelling.

PhD Day of IIS La Fe

On June 10 and 11, the PhD Day of the La Fe Health Research Institute (IIS La Fe) took place, a scientific event organised by and for PhD students, aimed at showcasing the institute’s research lines and promoting collaboration among research groups, platforms, and units.

Representing ProtoQSAR and our associated company MolDrug, Laureano E. Carpio (Senior Researcher and Head of Communications) participated as a speaker in the roundtable “Research career: options and professional perspectives”, where he shared insights from his experience in research and scientific communication.

XXX Congress of the Spanish Society for Microbiology

From June 16 to 19, the city of Jaén hosted the XXX Congress of the Spanish Society for Microbiology (SEM) for the first time, bringing together experts and researchers from across the country to address the main challenges and advances in the field of microbiology.

ProtoQSAR was represented by David Talavera Cortés (PhD), who delivered an oral presentation on his research project titled “Development and application of computational approaches for the identification of new antimicrobial agents within the One Health framework”, funded by the IVACE+i Innovation Innodocto programme (INNTA3/2024/2).

XXI National Congress of the Spanish Society of Medicinal Chemistry (SEQT)

From June 15 to 18, ProtoQSAR took part in the XXI National Congress of the Spanish Society of Medicinal Chemistry (SEQT), held in Seville. The event brought together researchers and experts in medicinal chemistry to exchange new translational strategies and sustainable solutions to address global health challenges.

Our team was represented by Eva Serrano Candelas (Chief Scientific Officer), Laureano E. Carpio (Senior Researcher), and Rita Ortega Vallbona (PhD Student), who shared key advances in the development of computational tools for drug design.

XXI National Congress of the SEQT

AIMPLAS Challenge Forum 2025

On June 5–6, ProtoQSAR took part in the AIMPLAS Challenge Forum, an international event organized by AIMPLAS, Plastics Technology Centre, as part of the SCI2MARKET project and funded by IVACE+i Innovación.

The forum brought together representatives from the industrial sector, research centers, and innovation-driven organizations to address the main challenges of the plastics industry through R&D and international collaboration.

ProtoQSAR was represented by José Luis Vallés Pardo (Senior Researcher), Marta Fons Page (Junior Researcher), and Eduardo Cubells Molina (Business Development Technician), who actively participated in networking sessions and idea-sharing with other attendees.

AIMPLAS Challenge Forum 2025

15th Edition of the BioDetectors Conference

On June 26–27, ProtoQSAR participated in the 15th BioDetectors Conference, held in Genoa, an international event organized by Biodetection Systems and BERTHOLD.

The conference focused on Non-Animal Effect-Based Methods (NAM/EBM), highlighting the latest advancements in in vitro technologies and computational models that are transforming the way we assess chemical and pharmacological safety.

ProtoQSAR was represented by Ágata Llobet Mut (PhD student), who took part as a speaker with the talk “Understanding and Preventing the Impact of Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals in the Framework of the HYPIEND EU Project”.

15th Edition of the BioDetectors Conference

The CheMatSustain General Assembly and the official launch of its new facility

From June 25 to 27, the city of Bologna (Italy) hosted the General Assembly of the European project CheMatSustain, a key meeting to align strategies, share progress, and strengthen collaboration among all consortium partners.

Representing ProtoQSAR, Rafael García Meseguer (Senior Researcher) and Enrique Llobet Serra (PhD Student) attended the meeting to present results, contribute to technical discussions, and help define the next steps for the project’s ongoing work.

Additionally, on June 27, the official launch of the CheMatSustain Facility took place, an initiative focused on how artificial intelligence can support chemical risk prediction and drive more sustainable innovation across Europe.
