Welcome to the 6th edition of our newsletter! In this new issue, we are thrilled to share the latest updates from our company.
In the last months, we have had the privilege of hosting esteemed researchers who visited our offices to showcase their latest breakthroughs. We also celebrated the successful PhD defense of one of our members and the award won by another of our colleagues. Additionally, we are pleased to summarize our new research papers and our experiences from various events attended by our team.
At ProtoQSAR, we are very glad to regularly organize visits from outstanding colleagues and learn from their recent advances and discoveries.
On April 12th, we had the pleasure of hosting Prof. Mathieu Vinken, full professor affiliated to the Department of In Vitro Toxicology and Dermato-Cosmetology of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel-Belgium (VUB), and main coordinator of the ONTOX and PANACHE projects in which we participate. He delivered a talk titled «Ontologies as the Basis for Setting Up Animal-Free Test Batteries: Liver Toxicity as a Case Study.»
Moreover, on April 17th, Dr. Cristina Legido-Quigley (Senior Lecturer in the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science, King’s College London) visited us and gave an interesting talk titled «Producing and Integrating omics for Drug Discovery.»
Many thanks Mathieu & Cristina for your visit and great talks!
In the last few months, we have had the pleasure of celebrating several achievements of our team members.
On May 5th, our Researcher and Head of Communication, Laureano E. Carpio, defended his PhD thesis titled «Identification of New Bioactive Compounds Generated by Intestinal Bacteria». This work was done in by Laureano in the context of a collaboration between ProtoQSAR and the prestigious group “Microbiome, Nutrition and Health» led by Dr. Yolanda Sanz at the Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology (IATA-CSIC). It was a day of celebration and joy for all of us. We want to emphasize Laureano’s effort and outstanding work. Congratulations!
Moreover, during the MaterialsWeek 2024 event in Limasol (Cyprus), our senior researcher José Luis Vallés Pardo was awarded the «Data & Tool FAIRification Award» for the proper handling of data following FAIR principles, as demonstrated in his oral presentation on automated extraction of experimental and predictive data for SSbD assessment. This work is part of the European projects BIO-SUSHY, SiToLub, and CheMatSustain. Congratulations José Luis on this well-deserved award!
