Welcome to a new installment of our “Meet the Team” section!
In this latest entry, we are delighted to introduce you to Laureano E. Carpio, known as Lauri to his friends, senior researcher and head of communications.
Lauri’s academic journey began with a degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de València, followed by a Master’s in Biotechnology and Bioengineering from the Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche. During his master’s program, he spent a year conducting research internships in Prof. José Villalaín’s lab at IDiBE. After that period, he joined our team, where he continued his development and, this very year, earned his PhD in Chemistry from the Universitat de València, specializing in bioinformatics and computational chemistry. Throughout his career, he has also enhanced his expertise with scientific communication and digital marketing training, enabling him to bridge the gap between research and various audiences while maximizing its impact.
At ProtoQSAR-Moldrug, Lauri wears multiple hats. Within the R&D department, he leads projects focused on molecular modeling and the design of bioactive compounds. Additionally, as the head of communications, he coordinates activities related to the dissemination and outreach of the company’s various national and international projects.
What does he enjoy most about his work? Lauri is greatly satisfied with seeing how our computational methods can identify potentially useful compounds in clinical, agro-food, or cosmetic sectors. But that’s not all—he’s also motivated by the opportunity to bring his work to new audiences and promote computational techniques as an alternative to animal experimentation.
As a self-proclaimed “viejoven” and pop culture enthusiast, he recommends listening to Agapimú by Ana Belén and Ojete Calor, reading La Mancha by Enrique Aparicio, and watching Todo sobre mi madre by Pedro Almodóvar. He is a true lover of culture and technology in his professional and personal life!
In this entry, we’ve introduced another member of the ProtoQSAR team and their professional and personal contributions.
